Cape Town May Day Invitational Tournament - May 2005

Dates: 30 April – 1 May 2005
Location: Mandalay Sports Fields (Sat) & Rondebosch Boys’ High School (Sun)

Ultimate players from Joburg, Pietermaritzburg, London, Canada, America, and Germany gathered to play in Cape Town. Everyone got to play in 6 games and each game ran for at least an hour (one or two close games going for nearly 2).

On Saturday, we played in a hat format out at Mandalay. 4 'even' teams. There were some long hard games, but in the end Killer D won.

On Sunday we divided into - roughly - Khaya, Joburg, International and Cape Town. Khaya played as a team (without Derrick who got up too late). You will be amazed to hear that they won only one of their three games and that by only one point!! There was some great play, but the more structured approach of the other teams made them struggle - especially the clam that Joburg used against them. The Joburg team struggled a bit with the wind (or what we could call the home turf advantage) but played pretty fantastically against Khaya in an epic game that could have gone either way. The international team played superbly, winning two of their three games. George deserves a special mention for sprouting wings and flying around the field like a defensive demon. The Cape Town team managed to win the tournament after some hard games - so we got the big bucket of sweets !!

Let's do it again, but bigger and better!

South African Ultimate National Club Championships- SAUCC 2003

Dates: Sept 25 - 27, 2003
Location: Johannesburg

The South African Ultimate Club Championships (SAUCC) for 2003 took place in Johannesburg from the 25th to the 27th of September. It consisted of

  • A hat tournament to encourage the different teams to play together.
  • An 18-hole disc golf championship, ably won by Andre Standings (2 over par).
  • The national pool play and finals.
  • Several braai's and social events.
The finals were hotly contested by Sloose from Cape Town and Fanplastic from Johannesburg. Fanplastic narrowly defeated Sloose 15-14 in pool play to get to the finals undefeated, but they could not continue this winning streak when Sloose turned up their game and Sloose won 15-6 in the finals. Well done 'Sloose' !!

Greyhound played a large part in making this happen by sponsoring the guys from the dev program to go up to Johannesburg so that they could participate in the tounament. Here they are displaying their appreciation.

Much fun was had by all the people who came and played. It was a 5-a-side tournament (with subs) and 5 teams played. The games were tight, with many of them going into overtime, but after many tough games Andre's team defeated Stewarts team in the final to take home all the glory.

South African Ultimate Club Championships- SAUCC 2002

Dates: Oct 5 - 6, 2002
Location: Gardens Tech and Clifton 1st, Cape Town

The SA Ultimate Nationals were finally concluded on 6 October 2002 after some extreme weather conditions led to the postponement of the semi-finals and finals. In the face of a howling south-east gale pool games were played on Clifton 1 and 2 with pre-tournament favourites ISO and Spinach topping their pools despite spirited resitance from the development teams and Johannesburg's Coathangers.

In the semi's Spinach came from behind to finish off the Coathanger's challenge while ISO put paid to the hopes of Blue Moon of Cape Town. The final, played in generally excellent spirit, produced some top-class ultimate with ISO running out victors 19-11 and thereby claiming the Dump Cup and the title of National Ultimate Club Champions for 2002. Congratulations!
