What is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is very similar to traditional golf, although players use flying discs instead of a ball and clubs. The object is to complete a course in the fewest number of throws, starting at a tee area and finishing at a target that acts as the hole. Targets can be a number of objects but the most common are a metal basket design or a tone pole that rings if struck. Players progress through the course by taking each consecutive throw from the spot where the previous throw landed. The trees, shrubs, and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the disc golfer. Each ‘hole’ is completed by striking the target or getting the disc in the basket. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of traditional golf, whether it’s sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway. It can be played informally around a park or on established courses and is enjoyed by people of all ages, male and female, regardless of economic status. Almost any flying disc is suitable for a fun game around the park, however the serious players use high-tech golf specific discs for driving, mid range and putting.
